Gala
Days (Inter School Sport)
Inter-school
sports Gala Days are held three times per semester for students turning 10 that
year and older. All students are
encouraged to participate. Students can choose from the sports available, which
have previously including:
Semester
one: teeball, softball, soccer
Semester

There is
a cost for these days to cover buses, nomination fees and facilities
hire. Children not participating in these inter-school sports undertake
other class and physical education activities at the school.
Children
are given a list of team sports to choose from each semester. At times
children may not be able to participate in their first preference due to
numbers required to form teams.
District
opportunities
Each year Yeronga State School sends a team
of competitors to the Eastern Taipans District trials for Swimming, Cross
Country and Athletics. Students who are
successful at this level gain selection into the Eastern Taipans District Team
and progress to a regional carnival.
Students must be turning 10-12 years old in the nominating year to
be eligible.
Swimming: After school swimming carnival, race times
are collated by school PE teacher who will determine the students to be
nominated. Nominations are based on
qualifying times.
Cross Country: After school cross country, nominations to
trial for districts will be decided on ability and suitability to run cross
country. Distances for cross country are
2km (10 year old) and 3km (11-12 year old).
Nominations will be determined by school PE teacher.
Athletics: After school athletics day, students
are nominated depending on results.
Recommended qualifying times and distances are set by the Eastern
Taipans District office. Due to these
qualifying times and distances, students may finish in the top at the school
athletics carnival but do not progress to district level.
