Rules and policies

School Handbook and Behaviour Plan

All our school’s policies and rules are included in the School Handbook (PDF 472 KB) and Responsible Behaviour Plan (PDF 894 KB). We ask that parents keep an up-to-date copy of this information at home for easy reference and discuss school policies with their children

Our school has high expectations of student behaviour, and these are actively communicated and reinforced.  Behaviour is modelled around the school values: Do your best, be responsible, be respectful, be safe.

School hours

The school is open to students from 8:30am.

Year 1 to 6 students who arrive before this time need to sit under C Block and read or talk quietly to friends until 8:30am.

The oval, tennis courts and playgrounds are out of bounds before school.

The school day finishes at 3pm.  Children are not allowed to stay at school after this time unless they are supervised by a teacher, parent, or attending outside school hours care. Parents who arrive after 3:15pm to pick up children need to collect them from the school office.

Please remember that Prep students must be signed in and out each day.

If you need to regularly drop your child/children at school before 8.15am please enrol them in Yeronga Outside School Hours Care an excellent facility which is open from 7am to 8:45am and again from 3pm to 6pm.

Absences and leaving early

If your child is going to be absent from school please call the Absence Line on 3426 0366  by 9am.

Rolls are marked at 9am.  Therefore, if your child arrives late for school - even by a few minutes he/she should go to the office and get a late slip before proceeding to their class.  This will effectively mark them on the roll, otherwise they are considered an explained absence.

If your child needs to leave school early, a parent or carer must sign them out at the school office.

If your child is going to be away from school for more than 10 consecutive school days  you will need to apply for an exemption.  Further information about exemptions  and forms for exemption are available.

Some medical conditions require from school to prevent the spread of infectious diseases among staff and children.  Please abide by the Disease Exclusion Periods (PDF 1180KB) stipulated by the Department of Health.

For school staff to administer medication, details must be provided  via the downloadable Request to Administer Medication at School (PDF 403KB) form.  Please note that staff cannot administer over-the-counter medication without authorisation from a medical practitioner.

Uniform and hats

Our school places great importance of our student dress code and the role it plays in promoting personal pride, identity and school spirit.  The School Handbook (PDF 472KB)contains a copy of the school dress code.

The school’s formal uniform is worn on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday. The sports uniform is worn on Tuesdays and Fridays.

The uniform shop is located on the ground floor of Block F.  It is open Mondays 2:30pm – 3:30pm and Thursdays 8:30am – 9:30am.

Road safety, bikes and parking

The safety of our students is paramount. Please observe all traffic and parking signs in and around the school to keep our children safe and ensure the smooth flow of traffic.

Crossings

Children must use the patrolled school crossing or the pedestrian crossings at all times. They should enter the school using the pedestrian gates and avoid walking through the school’s car parks. Parents should model this safe behaviour.

Bikes and Scooters

Children must wear helmets when riding their bikes or scooters  to and from school. The school has two bike racks – one near the tennis courts and the other next to the Junior School car park.  Children should secure their bikes/scooters to the racks and take their helmet with them to class.

Bicycles/scooters are not to be ridden in the school grounds.

Parking

For the safety of your children and the smooth flow of traffic, please do not park in the school grounds.

Mobile phones

Students are encouraged not to bring mobile phones to school.  They are not to lend or share their phones with other students.  Mobile phones must be turned off and kept out of sight during class and not used during school hours.
