Children from non-English speaking backgrounds are supported by trained, school based English as an Additional Language or Dialect (EALD) teachers and teacher aides. In Queensland eligible immigrant students are funded for EALD support for their first three years if in primary school.

The aims of the program are to ensure that quality curriculum programs and appropriate support strategies are offered to EALD students.

When enrolling children from non-English speaking backgrounds, parents and those assisting them, need to bring a copy of the child’s visa to the school.

Children eligible for support:

  • All students with permanent visa.
  • Some students awaiting permanency.
  • Students born in Australia with one or both parents born in a non-English speaking country, from a language background other than English.

Should parents and carers require support, the school is able to contact the translating and interpreting services to arrange for on-site or telephone interpreting.
